Importing Personal Effects to Canada
Shipments of household goods are allowed duty
free entry provided that you have owned them
for at least a year prior to importation. All
household effects will be subject to physical
examination by the Canadian Food
Inspection Agency. You will need a Canadian
immigrant visa in order to move to Canada.
To move your household items, an inventory or packing
list is required, and Hunts will provide you with the correct customs forms that
must be completed prior to the goods leaving the UK.

Prohibitions And Restrictions
In general it is in your interest not to import the following items:
• Firearms & ammunition
• Inflammable goods & substances
• Plants & plant material
• Foodstuffs, perishables or otherwise
• Narcotics and dangerous goods
• Offensive materials
• Alcohol & Tobacco

Transit Times
Groupage or shared load consignments usually take 6 to 10 weeks door to door. However, this can vary depending on the volumes being shipped, customs or immigration delays and weather conditions. Sole use containers usually take 4 to 6 weeks port to port, and there is a weekly service to all major ports.

Moving Motor Vehicles To Canada
Used cars other than current models are generally prohibited from importation. Hunts will give you further advice if you are planning to move your car(s) to Canada.e
